The Top 5 Health Problems Caused by Smoking

Whether you are a smoker or a non-smoker you will understand by now the health risks that are associated with smoking. If you smoke, chances are that you have failed to give up smoking on many occasions in the past. If you are serious about quitting, then you need to have a good support system in place that will give you the strength to carry on.

There are numerous illnesses that can occur because of cigarettes and here is a list of just 5  Once you read them, you’ll be wanting to find out more about how to stop smoking:

1.    Lung Cancer – This is one of the most common yet most dangerous of the smoking-related illnesses. Lung cancer is only one of the possible cancer ailments anyone can get from smoking. Not all smokers contract cancer, however there is a much greater chance of this happening.

2.    Second on many people’s list would perhaps by cardiovascular diseases in terms of smoking-related illnesses. Heart attacks, strokes, paralysis and collapse are only few of these diseases. This is because smoking accelerates the hardening and narrowing of the arteries.

3.    Emphysema – This causes the breathlessness brought about by damage to the air sacs or alveoli. 94% of 20-sticks-a-day smoker suffer from this disease.

4.    Chronic Bronchitis – This is another pulmonary disease caused by smoking. This is apparent with continuous coughing and mucus over many months.

5.    Fertility Problems – If you have been trying to have a baby and have so far failed, it could be that one or both of you are smokers.  If so, stop ASAP and you might have more luck.

These are the top five health hazards to smoking. All smokers should try different techniques to battle the addiction of smoking as it can lead to many deadly illnesses and diseases.  The only possible downside to stopping is the quit smoking withdrawal symptoms. So if you are considering taking up the nasty habbit of smoking please take note of these illnesses.  They are not at all pleasant and not worth it at all.  If you have children then please give up so that they don’t have to witness you becoming very ill.  Also teach them about the risks of smoking and advise them to stay well away.
